Princess Costume Patterns

Princess Costume patterns for sewing are the perfect solution for those who would rather make their own costume than buy one.

Looking to save money by sewing your own princess costume? You probably can, but it helps if you have some talent or experience at sewing.  If not, maybe you can team up with a friend who is willing to do most of the sewing if you’ll chip in for the material two costumes.

Another thing to keep in mind is the time involved in making a costume. Make sure that you start early enough to have time to get your costume completed before Halloween. You don’t want the process of making your costume to become a chore, so give yourself time to do it at a relaxed pace.

Sewing your own princess costume is a great way to save yourself money at Halloween. You can create your own costume for about the same price as buying an inferior quality costume. High quality costumes can easily cost as much as $100, but you can sew your own princess dress for $20-30. Not only will you be assured of having a costume made with high quality materials, you get to choose the colors AND know that it’s going to fit perfectly.  Added bonus – you can use it again next year!

Another plus is that once you’ve bought a sewing pattern, you can use it to create other costumes, either for yourself or others. Most patterns can be used to sew two or more styles, so you can create for example, a princess costume and a witch costume from the same pattern.

Naturally, once the costume is sewn you still have to do all the accessorizing – the actual sewing is only the beginning! Accessorizing a princess costume is fairly simple. A crown or tiara is pretty much a given for any princess costume, whether for adults or children.  Elbow-length gloves are another good accessory, and you can often find inexpensive pairs at thrift shops or second hand stores. If not, they shouldn’t be too expensive to buy at a costume shop.

For adult princesses, a simple pair of solid color pumps that match the dress should be sufficient. For little girls, look for sparkle shoes, Mary Janes or ballet flats that match. Simple, sparkly jewelry befitting a princess is also a must; again, check the thrift shops for dangle earrings and other rhinestone jewelry to mimic lots of diamonds.  A dusting of glitter makeup will add the perfect finishing touch.

Using a bit of ingenuity and a bit of sewing talent, you can make yourself a costume much more cheaply than you might be able to buy one. Creating your costume can be as much fun as getting to wear it!
